Bug Description

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-input-synaptics

According to Xorg.0.log, the touchpad on my Santa Rosa-platform MacBook (2.2GHz Core 2) is not detected at all. This leads to none of the extended functionality working (I cannot right-click at all).

This could be bug #173411.

Is this hardy?

It's Hardy, but I don't think this is the same model touchpad. NONE of the gestures work and this pad didn't exist in the Dapper or Edgy days. The trackpads on the previous generation (non-Santa Rosa) MacBooks work fine. The newest do not.

Can you attach the output of lspci?

This is likely a duplicate of bug #162090. lspci will confirm or deny this.

Unfortunately this device does not get auto-configured nicely (not sure if this is resolvable), but manually inserting an xorg.conf entry gets the touchpad to a working state with the 8.14 Hardy kernel.
