Bug Description
Binary package hint: kdebase-bin-kde4
Since an update on 18-Feb-2008 I cannot login anymore on my KDE4 session. Using a new profile doesn't help. Using both nv and nvidia drivers. Won't work either through sudo or as root.
Apparently a connection with kdeinit4 cannot be established, for what I could see by login on a raw X session (X && DISPLAY=0:0 xterm), unfortunately startkde doesn't let me pipe the output to a file. But kdeinit4_wrapper moans about "/home/
All I can see is the splash screen flashing the first icon (the HDD) for 2 seconds, then KDM appears again.
Some KDE4 apps won't work on KDE3 since then as a result. KDE3 works flawlessly as usual.
I'm using Hardy. As updated as it can get at the moment, as python-apt seems to be broken and a few packages (all KDE4 unrelated) can't be updated until a fix is on the repos.
I didn't mention, I use kdm-kde4, but kdm-kde3 doesn't make any difference, or running just "X" and then "DISPLAY=0:0 /usr/lib/ kde4/bin/ startkde" from a pure console login.
