Bug Description

I installed a fresh UBUNTU 20.04 on my DELL XPS 13 9310 today.

Then I registered some fingerprints on the device (on the default Gnome-style desktop).

The fingerprint login worked well several times.

After that I installed KUBUNTU-full, using the terminal command.

Now I have both PLASMA and UBUNTU options to log into, but the **fingerprint reader does not work !!!**

The sequence of activities indicates that the error is in the KUBUNTU code.

Please help!

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1931898/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Please execute the following command only once, as it will automatically gather debugging information, in a terminal:

   apport-collect 1931898

and then change the status of the bug report back to 'New'.

When reporting bugs in the future please use apport by using 'ubuntu-bug' and the name of the package affected. You can learn more about this functionality at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

It turns out the package "fprintd" was not installed on my computer.

I installed it. Then I typed the debugging command. I see above that some data was uploaded.

However, after rebooting my computer, I can't see any way to access the FP service in order to record finger prints. There is no visible item on the "system settings" menu ....

Please assist.

Update: I now have Kubuntu 21.10 with Plasma 5.24.2, but still no FP access.

Just did a "apport-collect 1931898" run on my computer.
