Bug Description

When you are using a color scheme with a dark background & light foreground, cell background colors are no longer displayed. For example, try using the "high contrast, inverted" color scheme. Go to "Format Cell" and the color is set there, but you don't see it on the spreadsheet.

Cell background colors should be shown regardless of color scheme type.

Te colors appear if you select from the menu View -> Color/Grey -> Color
But the previews are still B/W, and the buttons (for example Bold, Underlined...) state is not visible at all.
I really can't use my favourite color scheme Serenity::OuterSpace due to this bug.

I tested on Ubuntu hardy OpenOffice.org 2.4.0~rc2 and the background color isn't visible but you can tell if eg Bold button is depressed. I didn't see an option for View->Color/Grey->Color though. Did you mean off the main View menu, or somewhere else?

Thanks,

Chris Cheney

Yes, I forgot to say that such option is in ooffice-impress.
If you open a presentation (.ppt or .odp) with a dark color scheme, it will
show in b/w only. Just try

Roberto,

It seems to work for me in presentation when creating my own presentation, I don't have any .ppt or .odp files to test with. One thing that might make a difference is that background colors on slides is usually set to 'None' not to white so if using a dark background the the background of the slide becomes dark as well. Actually on 2.4.0~rc2 setting color mode to black/white makes the slide go completely black on my system.

I am marking this bug as upstream due to the calc part of the issue.

Please, try this simple procedure:

1) open ooffice-impress with the dark theme (e.g. Serenity::OuterSpace)

2) create a new empty presentation

3) insert some text in the slide (it should appear white on a black background)

4) try to change the text color

it won't change but stays white until you go to View->Color/BW->Color
(but the preview list on the left is always BW)

I also tried to play with "Automatically recognize high contrast scheme" in the options but it seems to have no effect.

Moreover if you select Grayscale or BW in "View->Color/BW" menu, it won't return to the initial "white text on black background" state. It doesn't seems normal to me!

Tried both on debian-sid and kubuntu.

Roberto.

Does this behavior extend beyond impress? I seem to have this problem with spreadsheet graphs (Lines do not appear colored) and text documents (where font colors don't show up). I'm using a light-on-dark GTK theme under Intrepid's openoffice.

Exporting the file I'm looking at to a PDF shows up in color, but not while I'm editing in OO. Unclear if this is the same issue.

Best workaround i've seen:

export OOO_FORCE_DESKTOP=none

before running oo apps, or in your .profile/.bashrc somewhere...

I can confirm that this bug still exists in Kubuntu 9.10 KDE 4.4 with OpenOffice 3.1.1 from standard ubuntu archives.
It only appears when I have a dark colorscheme in use. It affects Calc and Impress (displaying on screen is wrong, but on PDF generation it works as expected).

I can set a background in Writer which shows up correctly on screen - but the default settings for background and foreground is the same as with system settings (which is a bit misleading ... why shall the page show up with black background when I actually want to print on white paper?).

I'm assuming this was morked wontfix because oo was dropped. Does the issue effect libreoffice the same way?

There are no new official OpenOffice.org releases in Ubuntu packaging anymore => Won't Fix

If the problem persists, please mark this bug as "also affects project Libreoffice" or "also affects distribution Libreoffice (Ubuntu)" if that has not happened already.

Please leave references to upstream OpenOffice.org bugs in place to allow cross pollination.
