I debugged it a little bit. In 'HAL' (hardware abstraction layer) the 'info.category' is set to 802.3 instead of 802.11 for wlan0 device.
When Network-Manager queries 'info.category' property , it gets the values as ethernet. I am guessing it is the driver's job to set this property correctly. So assigning the bug to feng.

I just upload a fix for this issue to both 2.6.22 and 2.6.24 moblin-kernel, and current HAL info shows the 8686 is a 802.11 device.

please test it

Feng,

I verified this bug with 2.6.22-24-menlow-developer kernel and problem is exists. Can you confirm that your changes are merged into moblin repository? I created image with image-creator and tested it on D0 hardware , followed exactly same procedure as before.

Raji,

You are right. My fix is checking to the 2.6.22-25 version, which is not cutting released yet. So you may need wait for the 2.6.22-25 version which integrates the fix

Alek has cutting the 2.6.22-25 menlow kernel release, please have a try.

I've run the NM applet and it is recoginzed as a wireless device. Also I used command line to test the WEP/WPA-TKIP, and they worked

hi Feng,
I do some test with 8686_v9 driver on crownbeach.
I test both 2.6.24-5 and 2.6.22-25, the result is the same.
It is reported as a wireles network instead of wired network.
But nm-applet still fail to associate AP.
Even test with AP that without WEP/WPA , nm-applet still doesn't work.

I am trying to root cause the issue but blocked right now, because SDIO card does not get recognized on D0 Hardware, with bios ver 72 and kernel 2.6.22-25-menlow-developer kernel , I tested with image created on 3/13.

Earlier when I had same issue with other SDIO cards, it was due to BIOS version, so if this works for you, let me know what version of bios are you using.

axel, In between are you able to connect via "iwconfig" command? If you were successful then it is probably NM problem otherwise could be a driver issue.Appreciate it if you could test that while I resolve the SDIO card issue.

Thanks
Raji

SDIO card is recognized on one D0 that my peer had, so I am debugging on that machine. When I ran

"sudo iwconfig wlan0 essid Guest" was successful ,but "sudo dhclient wlan0" failed to fetch IP. I am working with feng to resolve this issue.

I debugged the NM a little bit, and make a small patch for one null string handling issue. With this patch, moblin NM now works basically on Crown-Beach, WEP/WPA-TKIP verified.

8688 A2 is working well with the NM patch that feng sent but 8686 v9 is broken, for me iwconfig is not able to associate, I think that is causing the NM to not connect , but Network Manager is not crashing with the patch, I am going to check in the fix today 3/20 , please verify on your side also.

I used latest kernel as well as latest Network-Manager, it works well for both 8688_a2 and 8686_v9. So I change the status to "Fix commited".

For 8686 V9 use, user need make sure the firmware in /lib/firmware/mrvl as exactly the V9 version.

hi...
im using moblin2 beta version on intel atom platform and it is very very slow.
when i checked , i found metacity process taking up nearly 60% of cpu usage making moblin2 beta extremely slow.
please help me in getting rid of this problem..

earlier i was using moblin2 netbook(not beta version)on the same platform which was fast enough but im facing wireless connectivity problem in it.
when i connect the wifi adapter, i find the required network and enter its ssid.
i hav given the network name as guest.
And it shows as if it is connecting(or searching)but it never gives me an ip address or connects to the network.
if i connect a ethernet cable between the router and the moblin system,i get an ip and am able to use the network.
why am i not able to have a complete wireless connection?
please help me in establishing a wireless connectivity.
