Bug Description

I've been dabbling around with my Feisty Fawn for a half of a year with my Toshiba Satellite, Intel t1350 1.86 GHz along with an XP system. I've upgraded to GG with all my necessary programs working. It's been fun but now I can't use my suspend mode in this new version of GG since it gets blind in suspend mode but could get into the NTFS of windows with read and write as a plus.

Can anyone help?

Marking as incomplete. Known issue with ATI graphics memory allocation and new SLUB memory allocator with Gutsy kernel (2.6.22) which broke suspend on my old Dell GX1 desktop as well.

What graphics chipset on this machine? If ATI then known issue. If not, then need someone else with similar hardware to confirm suspend issues.

Thanks for replying, Mr. TerryG,

My Ubuntu device mgr gives me:

Mobile 945GM/GMS/GME, 943/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller

I hope this helps if not you but other comrades too.

Maybe I should also check with the XP boot, which I'd rather not make use of very much. I'm trying to make my best of this Ubuntu Linux after the old difficulties with v6 Mandrake to get out of choking commercial software.

I'm not much of a *nix user but do I try to learn the Linux way I can.

But I'd say it's fun, a real challenge to be free and the only way to go unfettered with checking and locking conditions in computing.

Sorry that I can't reply sooner since this laptop is shared with my family.

My warmest regards,
juniegh

Thanks for your quick response. Marking as Confirmed. Suspend on laptops is critical for users, and there are several tricks to try (search toshiba suspend in the Ubuntu forums). You have a recent Intel graphics chipset (945). I have the desktop version of the same embedded Intel graphics, and suspend works OK on my desktop with Gutsy. It takes 6 seconds to go to sleep and 6 seconds to wake up. I don't have a toshiba notebook to test, so you will have to rely on the forums for some tricks to get working.

If suspend worked in Feisty but not in Gutsy, then we have a regression in capability.

A quick search of the forums shows that you are not alone.

Both GGibbon and FFawn aren't supported any longer, so I am closing this report.

If this issue is still applicable to a supported release (best would be 9.04) then report a new bug, but please against a more appropriate package, I don't seem to understand the relation of suspend and kdemultimedia.

Anyway, have a nice day :)
