Contributors:
Marco Trevisan (Treviño), Benjamin Berg, Carlos Garnacho, Robert Mader,
Ray Strode, Jonas Ådahl

Translators:
Juliano de Souza Camargo [pt]

[Test case]

The update is part of GNOME stable updates.
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME

GNOME Shell and its components should continue working well.

[Regression potential]

There have been fixes in nightlight mode, IM handling in X11 and resizing windows in Wayland. All of those should not regress after the update.

"Fix Released" just because we already released 3.38 but I will also nominate focal to get 3.36.7 released properly.

I use 2 Ubuntu 20.04 machines daily for work, and because of the significant uptime I have seen these memory leaks occur. I would greatly appreciate this update and can test once the SRU is available.

The only leak fix in 3.36.7 is https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/1449 but that one may never be noticeable so may not be the issue you describe.

If you experience leaks then remove any extensions you have installed. If the problem keeps happening after that then open a new bug by running:

  ubuntu-bug gnome-shell

This shuold be the main reason mutter 3.36.7 to be update ASAP.

Mutter 3.36.6 broke the input method on Chinese/Japanese/Korea users, As a Chinese user I can't type anything under Gnome with mutter 3.36.6.

Timo Aaltonen (tjaalton) wrote : Please test proposed package

Hello Daniel, or anyone else affected,

Accepted mutter into focal-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/mutter/3.36.7+git20201123-0.20.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, what testing has been performed on the package and change the tag from verification-needed-focal to verification-done-focal. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-focal. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance for helping!

N.B. The updated package will be released to -updates after the bug(s) fixed by this package have been verified and the package has been in -proposed for a minimum of 7 days.

@Timo,

Could we wait for bug 1905825?

@Leon, what do you mean?

That fix will be included in the next SRU once that fix has been approved (and merged) upstream, so for now it's better to get a verification of this version that includes some mayor changes, then cherry-picking that fix will be an easier and quicker task.
