Bug Description

The debian packages, uses also libopenjp2-7.

As of reason of not compiling to include support for jpeg2000, all websites that decide to serve to "safari" identified browsers jp2, will fail to load correctly.

It works as expected in Debian Buster. It is not working as expected in Ubuntu 20.04.

Why has this been explicitly blocked?

Although, the library it is preinstalled on almost any minimal desktop installation, so I guess if it had some security issue, all other apps using it would have been affected.

Thank you for your bug report, indeed the package is coming from Debian without change but there is an old rule still in place to build without that option on Ubuntu

https://salsa.debian.org/webkit-team/webkit/-/blob/wk2/unstable/debian/rules#L81

The library got approved for main in the past cycle though so it should be removed now

Changed in webkit2gtk (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: New → In Progress

That is awesome. So soon I will not need to rebuild it on any update. Many
thanks.
