Bug Description

Binary package hint: tracker

In Hardy, tracker doesn't seem to index mails from Evolution, even though I've selected the checkbox asking it to do so. I've only been able to try this with IMAP accounts. Others have complained about the same thing. It doesn't show any mails when you search with tracker search tool or deskbar.

in evolution/imap make sure you select store messages locally so tracker can index them

then do trackerd -R

If it still causes a problem can you let me know your imap URI as we have had some trouble with embedded "Auth" in them

are you using GSSAPI authentication?

i was having a similar problem, until i noticed a non-kerberos account was being indexed properly. i switched the problem account from GSSAPI to PLAIN and everything started working like it should.

is a separate bug necessary for the gssapi-auth problem?

I have the same issue. I access my gmail account in evolution using IMAP. I have all the folders stored locally. I'm using ibex, tracker version 6.6, evolution version 2.24.0 . I've tried deleting all the folders in my home folder where I found the word "tracker" and reindexing.

Files and folders deleted:
./.cache/tracker
./.gconf/apps/tracker-search-tool
./.local/share/tracker
./.local/share/tracker/USERNAME_tracker_lock
./.config/tracker
./.config/tracker/tracker-applet.cfg
./.config/tracker/tracker.cfg

I've tried purging reinstalling tracker. I've tried completely deleting my .evolution folder and setting up my accounts again from scratch.

Tracker reindexes and works fine, but my email is still not indexed.

I too have searched around and found others reporting the same problem, but no fix, so I'm posting a "me too" here.

attached is the output of trackerd -v 2

another me too?

tracker only indexed a mere 700 mails while I have a tenfold of that amount. And there is no way to get it to index the other ~6300 emails

I have run trackerd -R but with no results. The IMAP URI for my host is: <email address hidden>@mail.domain.org. I.e: <email address hidden>@mail.jackie.org. In the log files i can see how tracker finds the evolution folders for all the accounts. But no email are being indexed. Setting this bug as incomplete->new

I confirm the bug on Intrepid with Evo 2.24

The same bug affects beagle, so I think Evolution is changed.

another confirm for intrepid, tracker only indexes a tenth of my mails, which probably even more weird than no emails at all. should I create another bug report?

Emails are being saved locally, because I can read them while in offline mode.

Ubuntu 64 bit Intrepid 8.10
Tracker 0.6.6
Evolution 2.24.2

None of my 8 pop mail accounts emails are ever indexed.
After that I tried to install Beagle, same problem.
And I also found out that using mail-notification doesn't work at all.

Is this problem with Evolution?

Confirmed on Ubuntu 8.10 32 bit, tracker 0.6.6, evolution 2.24.2.

No pop mail indexed.

Also, mail that I linked (via ln -s command) to evolution that was previously accessed by thunderbird, is not indexed either. I can read that e-mail in evolution, but not get it indexed.

Output from debug log of trackerd is uploaded here

I have an IMAP account that never gets indexed.

I have a similar configuration in ArchLinux (Tracker 0.6.6, evolution 2.24.2). Have tried Beagle but no indexing either.

All but my imap mails get indexed.

$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

Tracker 0.6.6
Evolution 2.24.3

$ trackerd --reindex doesn't help either

Reading the Gnome bug there has been a bug but it is fixed in version trunk as of approx 2009-01. There always is a possibility to backport that fix to Intrepid but I'm unsure of how that gets done.

Probably next release, Jaunty, has this fix.

@calvin, the current version of tracker simply hasn't got the email indexing function implemented. You'll have to wait for tracker 0.7
