The installation guide for 20.04 lists i386 as a supported architecture:

i386 is not supported anymore on 20.04
[test case]
We can't reasonably remove a package from a stable relase, but we can make it empty. So the test case is just that installation-
[regression potential]
in this case, it's really hard to imagine
