Bug Description

My HP5200 All-in-Oneder worked fine under 19.10, but after upgrading to 20.04, simple-scan can no
longer connect to the scanner although the printer still works fine. This is fairly critical to
my work flow and I had to boot and use Windows 10 (major ick) to work around this. NOT GOOD.

Thank you reporting this bug and make ubuntu better!

Did you try install hplip and hplip-gui control centre to make contact
with your scanner?

I'm Simple-scan developer.
I have an two scanners (HP Laser MFP 135a - hpaio backend and HP 4630 - smfd backend).
After upgrade from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 20.04, both scanners stops working on simple-scan, xsane and scanimage.

I think it is some issue with provileges/sane, but not directly to simple-scan, xsane and scanimage.

Yes both are installed. I can make connection under a new name, but
under that name when I select all pages from feeder, it scans the flatbed
instead.

Some additional information, my initial report was incomplete in as much as I've discovered more relevant details since I reported it.

Prior to 20.04, simple-scan worked perfectly.

After upgrading to 20.04 when it scans for Scanners it now finds TWO entries, the first is
HP OfficeJet_5200_series. If I try to use this one it says, "Failed to Scan Unable To Connect to Scanner". The second entry it finds is ESCL OfficeJet 5200 Series [TH87N5B042]. With this entry, if I select flat bed, it scans a single page, but if I select "All Pages from Feeder", it still only scans the single page on the flat bed and does not activate the feeder.

It turns out this was the same issue as bug #1871011. I not only stopped the ippusbxd on this bus and port, but also disabled and masked it so that this would stay stopped across reboots. All is
good now.

Thanks for the additional info, Robert. Making this bug a duplicate then.

This bug was set as a duplicate of bug #1871011, bug #1871011 is invalid/expired and the issue still persists. I just connected a new Canon LiDE 300 USB scanner on Ubuntuj 20.04 and Xsane reported "device busy" until I googled (https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=329760 with also mentions other scanners) and uninstalled ippusbxd
