Bug Description

I use two monitors.
I noticed that every time I use Zoom, Ubuntu frezzes completely, at least the desktop. Other zoom participants inform me that they can hear me and see me but my system is not responsive no matter how long I leave it run.

I use :
Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
5.3.0-45-generic #37~18.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Fri Mar 27 15:58:10 UTC 2020 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

I believe that the error is due to what is displayed in :

It appears the nouveau kernel driver is crashing so that's likely the problem.

You might want to try the proprietary Nvidia driver instead, in:

Hello.
Indeed, I switched to NVIDIA driver and it seems that the problem has been solved.

I also experience this bug (very frequently) on Ubuntu 20.10. Unfortunately I can't switch to another graphics driver, my laptop has an i915 chipset.

I have the same issue on Ubuntu 18.04 after upgrading from Xenial last week, but using the Xenial kernel (4.4.0-171-generic). It worked fine before the upgrade. The kernel log shows a kernel oops: a warning followed by a general protection fault, both in the i915 code. Since I'm still on the Xenial kernel it must be the userspace driver update that causes the issue. I've attached the full kernel log.

The problem is fixed using 4.15.0-142-generic for me, so I recommend anybody who still has issues to make sure they're not using an old kernel from before upgrading.
