Thanks for your report. I've edited it into a needs-packaging bug, so that packagers can pick it up and work on it. In the future, please file bugs similar to this one in Ubuntu (with no source package) to request new packages. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuDevelopment/NewPackages can help further.

Is anyone actually working on this? Seems that at present there is not proper support for UMTS in Ubuntu at all.

A vote on UMTSmon from me too.

But i think there are ok support for the cards. I have been using both a Huawei E220 and a Dell Wireless 5520 (internal)

Anyone still working on this? This is being discussed at http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/10275/, too.

It would be nice if we got any answer. We could live with the information that there will never be proper UMTS support in Ubuntu, but waiting forever and getting no answer is crap.

@ Håkon Emil Olsen: Don't quite understand your answer. Is the signal strength feature something that will be part of a future version of networkmanager?

I'd also love to see this packaged. Network Manager has some issues when it comes to Mobilcom Debitel surf sticks and it's also not capable of showing signal strength...
