In addition to suppressing the error message it would probably be also useful to disable the detection by default for system users.

Same problem on 3 different PCs but MySQL won't start.
WSL1, all Windows and Ubuntu updates,
also try to:
- reinstall MySQL,
- change repository to https://repo.mysql.com//mysql-apt-config_0.8.14-1_all.deb
- reinstall Ubuntu 18.04

Always stop at:
mkdir: cannot create directory ‘//.cache’: Permission denied
-su: 19: /etc/profile.d/wsl-integration.sh: cannot create //.cache/wslu/integration: Directory nonexistent

SRU process will take some time, but yes, it will make to both bionic or xenial

What is the expected latency for it to reach Bionic? 1.5 months has passed since...
I think there is no real benefit if it gets released in 2023 :)

Rene Prillop,

I have submitted the SRU to backport the fix back to bionic and xenial. It is usually expected to be completed in 2-3 weeks

Patrick Wu,

I am experiencing the same issue with the installation of WSL 2 and bionic on Win10. I recently updated everything. This could be unrelated, but how do you know when it is fixed?

It is hard to feel any enthusiasm from Ubuntu to backport the fix.
Considering how many issues I have run into trying to use Ubuntu WSL image, I am not sure Ubuntu has any real interest in WSL. Just like Apple is not really into that boot camp thingy.
