Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. This bug did not have a package associated with it, which is important for ensuring that it gets looked at by the proper developers. You can learn more about finding the right package at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage . I have classified this bug as a bug in openldap2.3.

Thanks for taking the time report your bug and help making Ubuntu
better.

Could you attach the content of the terminal log (/var/log/apt/term.log)
from the upgrade ? From which version were you upgrading from ?

Could you also check the content of the systems logs ?

Mathias, I'm having a problem accessing my file system. The hard drive is marked now as SCSI drive and I can't open any files. I'll need help to get them for you or I may be forced to reload Gutsy.

Apparently my sata drive got changed to a SCSI drive and I had to access the file a different way. When I tried to attach it, it wouldn't attach an empty file, so I had to copy and paste the whole thing. Sorry.

It seems that there is an error in your slapd.conf configuration file.
Could you attach your /etc/ldap/slapd.conf file to the bug (removing any
sensitive information such as passwords) ?

During a package upgrade, a dump of the database is stored in
/var/backups. If the dump is already there, the upgrade aborts. Since
the first upgrade failed because of an incorrect configuration file,
subsequent upgrades fails because the dump of the first upgrade hasn't
been removed.

I think I have a work around. Completely uninstall slapd ( both) in synaptic and the reinstall them both. You are then asked for a password and thats it..... I hope.

Purging the package will delete your slapd.conf, which was the reason
why slapd wasn't able to start. Did you modify the default slapd
configuration file before upgrading ?

not that I'm aware of.

Would this have anything to do with my sata drive being recognized as a SCSI drive?

Mathias Gug (mathiaz) wrote :

I don't think so.

It seems that the checkpoint option in a bdb definition in slapd.conf as to come after the suffix option. This should be taken care of in the presinst script, but doesn't work.

Moving the checkpoint option after the suffix option should fix the problem.

I've had 2 large updates since last night and the slapd error did not show up. So I guess uninstalling and reinstalling in synaptic solved my problem. Now to figure out why my sata drive thinks its a scsi drive.
