Hello Matt,
The only error message your logs provide is:
invoke-rc.d: release upgrade in progress, error is not fatal mysqld/ mysqld. sock' (2) while connecting to the MySQL server
mysql_upgrade: Got error: 2002: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/
Upgrade process encountered error and will not continue.
mysql_upgrade failed with exit status 11
dpkg: error processing package mysql-server-5.7 (--configure):
subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
And some apparmor errors as well.
Can you confirm if you could restart the service after the upgrade, if it was a configuration problem or there is any other reason why the service wasn't able to start ?
I'm marking this bug as incomplete for now, but feel free to mark it as "new" again if you're able to provide us more information about it.
Thank you very much
Rafael
