Bug Description

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

In both Ubuntu and Ubuntu Studio the login/out sounds aren't being played. In Ubuntu Studio, the system sounds are used either.

They are set if one looks in System->Preferences->Sound->"Sounds" tab but cannot be previewed from here. Playing the files directly with Totem confirms they work.

I can confirm that system sounds are broken in Ubuntu 8.04. I can play a music CD and the Sound Playback in System->Preferences->Sounds produces a tone, but I cannot play the login logout nor the information and warning messages.

This seems to have regressed, since I don't get any of the system sounds to work in current daily build 20080318.1 amd64. Sound on applications like Totem or Rhythmbox seems to work fine though. I have two sound cards on my system, as primary device the Intel HDA card on my mainboard and for Skype and something like this a Creative Labs Sound Blaster Live Value.

Kind regards,
Jan

Argh, sorry, I just discovered now that there is an own information page on which files to attach to a bug report regarding sound problems. Anyway, here now hopefully the correct files.

This has been fixed for some time. I test 3 out of every weeks dailies and haven't had 1 regression. I'll leave this open for now but will close it soon.

Sorry, my fault, I just found out that my headset wasn't connected at all, so I naturally couldn't hear anything from it ;-) Now the sounds are played indeed, but always on the wrong output device, I have opened a new report about this:
