Google is warning about this issue in their Analytics FAQ:

"A note for Linux users: the Flash implementation for Linux can be very problematic, and users of Debian and Ubuntu seem to be especially affected. We're aware of these issues, but due to the lack of updates and Flash plugin development for Linux, we may be unable to support your browser and operating system combination at this time."

I love Ubuntu, but the current treatment of such high profile bugs like this and bug #59695 makes me sad and dissapoints me a lot.

I suspect that the Google warning refers to the problem, now resolved, of being unable to install flashplugin-nonfree because Adobe overwrote the previous, known-working tarball on their website with a new security fix version which had the side effect of being incompatible with Konqueror.

The current problem being described is a new error, specific to amd64, which is not an architecture supported by Adobe at all; getting the official Flash plugin to work on 64-bit Linux is several layers of kludges, and getting it to work at all is an accomplishment to either be proud of or frightened by, depending on your viewpoint.

The particular issue that prevented flashplugin-nonfree from installing in this case was separately reported against ia32-libs as bug #180478, a result of a missing 32-bit lib in the compatibility layer. This was resolved on 11 Mar at the latest, and currently the flashplugin-nonfree package installs successfully on amd64. I'm therefore marking this bug as 'fix released'.
