This crash just happened to me when I attached a digital camera (Kodak EasyShare DX6340) to the USB port on my keyboard. Not sure if it's related or not?

I get the same crash every once in a while and I have no idea what triggers it. I was NOT using remote desktop, just browsing on the local machine with Firefox, editing some text files and checking mail with Thunderbird. The crash report just comes up arbitrarily in the middle of normal work.

Could you guys try to reproduce it, and, when its happens, copy here your ~/.xsession-errors ?

I just got this when trying to connect to localshot using vinagre.

The last part of my .xsession-errors. The messages before don't seem to be related at all (trackerd, totem, rhythmbox, libdvdread)

emilio@pochu:~$ tail .xsession-errors

BTW whenever I try to connect to localhost, vinagre shows this message "Connection to host "emilio@pochu" was closed." and apport appears saying vino crashed.

NB: I have my vnc connection protected with a password.

I'm also using a password. Since I am not trying to connect at all when the
crash happens, perhaps it is related to someone else trying to hack in?

I don't think so, as I'm connecting to localhost.

Hi, Emilio. I had already seen this issue, which seems to be specific with vinagre. Today I had some time and fixed that specific bug in vino (crash when a client connect and immediately disconnect) [1].

Notice that I'm talking about other bug (which was reported by pochu in his last comment), not the bug as the title says.

That's great news!

Isn't this the same? I commented here because in the apport window the command
was similar to
ProcCmdline: /usr/lib/vino/vino-server
--oaf-activate-iid=OAFIID:GNOME_RemoteDesktopServer --oaf-ior-fd=17 (the
backtrace was useless without been retraced).

Jonh, here's a debdiff applying that commit.

Let me know if you believe this is a different bug.

Jonh Wendell (wendell) wrote :

Definitely they are different bugs... That I fixed is specific to client vinagre, (vncviewer is fine). Why? I'm still trying to discover :)

This bug, as the title and its backtrace suggest, is related to clipboard stuff, I need to investigate it more...

About your debdiff, I guess Ubuntu can wait until next week, when I'll release vino 2.21.92.

Hi, Daniel.

This patch is not necessary anymore, once it belongs to vino 2.22, which is already packaged for Hardy.

Notice that this patch does NOT fix this bug. This bug still needs more information.

I guess you have to patch vino and let it run in background, in order to see if those random crashes come out.
