Bug Description

The internal microphone on this troublesome laptop stopped working after upgrading from Bionic to Cosmic. There is no signal from the microphone with kernel 4.18.0-7 or 4.18.0-8.

This DOES work correctly with kernel 4.15.0-34 that is still present on Cosmic after the upgrade.

I recommend Canonical gets this laptop for testing since a ton of stuff is troublesome on this Raven Ridge laptop. Would be a good specimen to get support for this platform improved.

Does this still happen on an up-to-date system?

The dumb thing is: it was working! For a while.

Then I updated the BIOS to the 1/2/2019 7VCN46WW version to see if the `ivrs_ioapic` parameter was still required for the touch pad issue, and now the microphone stopped working again! :(

Using the stock cosmic 4.18.0-16-generic kernel.

If v4.15 kernel works 100% of the time, then a kernel bisection can find the regression point easily.

I don't know the C language but if it can help.

No, I have the Ideapad 330 (Not S)-15ARR. But I think the microphone is the same for both.

Last time, I tried to boot Kubuntu 18.10 with kernel 4.15: black screen and no system init. So I don't know if it works or not.

For me, the problem has been resolved on Kubuntu 19.04 and the Ideapad 330-15ARR. I have the kernel 5.0.0-13-generic. I just needed to block front-right microphone in pavucontrol and it works fine.

Doesn't work for me. I have sound chip Realtek ALC236, is that the same as yours?

No, I have the AMD R6xx HDMI sound chip. So I think the problem has been solved for my sound chip but not yours.
