Bug Description

Hallo,

I installed Kubuntu and everything just worked quite fine. Well but then I booted it and everything was black - the display was switched on as I was able to see the backlight, but it was black anyway!! Okay I waited as I saw that the harddrive worked and then suddenly KDM appeared. Then everyting was fine, but when I tried to boot Kubuntu again, the bootsplash was not there! And while shutting it down there is no bootsplash either!!

A little workaround is to edit the menu.list of grub to quiet quiet (it was before quiet splash). But after the next kernel, I know from previously installations of Ubuntu, the setting will be turned back to the original one! Thats very problematic as I have an encrypted harddrive and to enter the key I, of course, have to see when to enter it!
It's no problem with quiet quiet und at Feisty it switched to the text-mode, but now it does not, it is just black and thats of course bad!

Thank you for your attention!

Hey, I am not sure, but my brother told me that after his Ubuntu Gutsy installation, the screen remained black - not sure whether he was patient enough to wait for gdm, but perhaps there is a connection...

you can always boot the previous kernel to make the grub fix for the more recent kernel, or edit the menu.lst before rebooting. Not really a solution, but possibly a good workaround
