Bug Description

One family laptop is an 18 month old System76 laptop (it says model Z7100V on the bottom). I just did a fresh install of Kubuntu Gutsy 7.10, and then installed the system76-driver package. Now, when I try running the System 76 driver, I get the message:

"This driver is designed for System 76 machines runnnign Ubuntu version 6.06, 6.10, 7.04 or 7.10. If you have a System 76 machine running one of the above Ubuntu versions please file a bug report at https://launchpad.net/system76"

So, I am filing a bug report as suggested. I got the error message immediately after downloading and installing the driver, as well as after a reboot.

What now?

Hi, Bhaskar.

That model number does not sound familiar. Are you sure it is a System 76 computer? I can see the computers you've ordered
in my records, and that one isn't among them.

At any rate, I don't think the System 76 driver every added any support to that computer model.
If you can provide a model name or an order number, that would be helpful.

Best,
Tom

That computer was a home laptop, purchased in summer, 2006 (my recent
purchase was for work). Look for a PC purchase under e-mail address
<email address hidden> or <email address hidden>. It definitely is a System 76
laptop, one of the last Pentium M models (it may have been called a
Pangolin, but I can't be sure). I actually own two of them, the
second purchased in the fall of 2006. Let me know what information i
can provide (maybe a photo that shows a System76 logo?) that can
convince you that it really is a System76 laptop. I bought two from
Carl.

I'll see whether I can find an e-mail copy of an invoice or an order number...

Regards

OK, I see it now. Our db reports it as an PanV1. It's a bit before my time here, so that model number from the bottom of it through
me off.

Anyway, according to this...
http://knowledge76.com/index.php/System76_Driver
...the System 76 Driver never provided any support for the PanV1.

However, I do see "ec-panv1" in the System76 Driver Code, and I know R&D cleaned out the driver
before the most recent release.

I'm going to connect this bug to the system76-driver project and let Carl have a look at it.

The bug is still marked new...has the latest driver fixed the problem, or was it confirmed that it does not run on the PANV1?

What was the fix supposed to be? I am still getting the same unsupported messagebox, even though i have latest driver and am running 9.10 on my panv1. It would be more helpful if the messagebox told me (1) model is panv1 (which i know only from my purchase receipt), and (2) driver is not needed for panv1.

Carol.

I'll pass that on to the driver team. But the System76 Driver isn't needed on your system, and your particular model number was phased out of the System76 driver some time ago.

I understand that: my point is that the messagebox should state so,
instead of giving an ambiguous "unsupported" message suggesting users
file a bug. thanks.

Carlos,

please run the following command:

sudo dmidecode ~/Desktop/dmidecode.txt

The command will create a file on your desktop. Attach it to this bug report and I'll work on adding a messaging that states no additional drivers are necessary.

Best,

Carl
