Bug Description

[Rationale]

Hardware Enablement:
- Refreshed PNP IDs from hwdata
- Added support for VBX (VirtualBox)
- Standardized and shortened manufacturer names
- Updated laptop detection to include eDP in XfceRandr

Bug Fixes:
- xfsettingsd --replace does not replace old daemon (Xfce #14381)
- Uninitialized scalar variables (CID #292062, #292063)

Translation Updates:
Belarusian, Catalan, English (Australia), Galician, Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Ukrainian

[Regression Potential]

Regression potential is minimal. The changes in 4.12.4 mirror those in 4.13.4, which has been released in Cosmic with no reported regressions. A significant portion of the diff is related to GCC8 build changes, which are fully compatible with GCC6 and GCC7.

I've tested the upgrade on my machine, which now identifies the monitors with the updated vendors. Even with the updated vendors, my non-standard monitor layout has not changed.

[NEWS]

- Fix: xfsettingsd --replace does not replace old daemon (Xfce #14381)
- Fix: Uninitialized scalar variables (CID #292062, #292063)
- Fix: -Wcast-function-type (GCC 8)
- Fix: Redefinition of DISTCLEANFILES
- Improved display manufucturer name recognition:
  - Refreshed PNP IDs from hwdata
  - Added support for VBX (VirtualBox)
  - Standardized and shortened manufacturer names
  - Updated laptop detection to include eDP in XfceRandr
- Updated --help copyright information to 2018

- Translation updates: Belarusian, Catalan, English (Australia), Galician,
  Hungarian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Ukrainian

The attachment "debdiff" seems to be a debdiff. The ubuntu-sponsors team has been subscribed to the bug report so that they can review and hopefully sponsor the debdiff. If the attachment isn't a patch, please remove the "patch" flag from the attachment, remove the "patch" tag, and if you are member of the ~ubuntu-sponsors, unsubscribe the team.

"[..] and if you are member of the ~ubuntu-sponsors, unsubscribe the team." Huh? Wow, why does the bug bot say that? Doesn't sound too nice; btw. if someone is a team member that may be for a reason, right? *confused*

Sean, sponsored with some trivial changelog tweaks. Thank you!

A. Denton, perhaps it's just a misunderstanding. We only unsubscribe the team when there's nothing to sponsor, often when there's changes needed. We don't unsubscribe for no reason. :)

@aquina A. Denton, I guess you are misreading what the bot wrote. What it means is: if the bot was wrong in identifying the attachment as a patch (e.g. someone uploaded some debugging log but it was invalidly identified as a patch instead) the patch tag should be removed and the ~ubuntu-sponsors team should be unsubscribed from the bug. It says nothing about removing anyone from the team. It just says that the sponsors team itself should be *unsubscribed* from the bug in case there is no actual patch provided.

In this case everything's good so there's no need for performing any of those operations.

Hello Sean, or anyone else affected,

Accepted xfce4-settings into bionic-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfce4-settings/4.12.4-0ubuntu0.18.04.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested and change the tag from verification-needed-bionic to verification-done-bionic. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed-bionic. In either case, without details of your testing we will not be able to proceed.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in advance!

Installed Bionic on a VM, fully updated, enabled proposed, and installed xfce4-settings. Opened Display Settings and the VBX display is identified as "VirtualBox". Listed processes for xfsettingsd and noted the pid. Ran "xfsettingsd --replace" in a separate terminal, then listed the processes again. The old pid is gone and a new one has taken over. Everything is working as expected. Verification done.

The verification of the Stable Release Update for xfce4-settings has completed successfully and the package has now been released to -updates. Subsequently, the Ubuntu Stable Release Updates Team is being unsubscribed and will not receive messages about this bug report. In the event that you encounter a regression using the package from -updates please report a new bug using ubuntu-bug and tag the bug report regression-update so we can easily find any regressions.
