Hello Dear team,

We have just found out, that Debian 8 and 9 's cloud-init does not support pre-hashed passwords.

Hi Karen,
Thanks for taking the time to file a bug.
As I understand it, you've found a problem with the cloud-init that is in debian's versions of cloud-init, but is not a problem with cloud-init upstream.

If that is correct, then you will need to report the bug to debian (https://www.debian.org/Bugs/Reporting). There is not anything we at upstream cloud-init can do about that.

If you believe there is something that needs fixing in cloud-init's master branch then please indicate that and put this bug back to 'New'.
