Bug Description

Binary package hint: firefox

I am running the en-US dictionary (I checked this in my browser's 'About' screen and this report will also signify this).

When I type words like 'color' and 'favorite' they are marked as misspelled (I can see the red lines now ;) but they are clearly spelled correctly.
The spelling suggestions offer the UK alternatives ['colour' and 'favourite', respectively]. This leads me to think that the US English dictionary is not correct.

I see the extension summary say en-GB, yet I see this in my Firefox info:
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071204 Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.11

And I have also explicitly checked in my options and the default is US English. (see attachment for this).

I'm not 100% sure what you mean by this, but I can give you more information
regarding the problem.
Firefox's spellchecker is marking words such as 'color' as misspelled and
corrects them with the British spellings [i.e. 'colour']. My local settings
are for US english as shown in the image I attached. The output of "Help >
About Mozilla Firefox" yields:

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux x86_64; en-US; rv:1.8.1.11) Gecko/20071204
Ubuntu/7.10 (gutsy) Firefox/2.0.0.11

Additionally, the Add-On for the English (GB) Pack has been disabled and
Firefox was already restarted since then. I have included a snapshot of the
Add-On box to exemplify this. Despite all this evidence that the US
dictionary is active, 'color' is still marked wrong and 'colour' marked
correct. I am verifying this as I type.

please post the contents of /usr/lib/firefox/dictionries

and try to remove the DB dictionary extension you have installed
(vs. just disabling it)

I have the same problem with GB English spelling being correct and I want US-Englsih spelling to be correct. This is annoying and needs to be corrected. It has persisted across several versions of Firefox. I am using Version 7.0 now.
