Bug Description

After I upgrade Kubuntu from 17.10 to 18.04, and restarted it, all I'm seeing is my mouse cursor, which responds to my movements, and that's pretty much it. I tried to see if I can start up sddm, but that failed.

I got to login by installing slick-greeter and use that instead.

After logging in, the message says:

Plasma is unable to start as it could not correctly use OpenGL 2. Please check that your graphics drivers are set up correctly.

I checked the environment variable `$DISPLAY`, but it seems to be unset.

I tried reinstalling `plasma-desktop`, `sddm`, `mesa` drivers, `xorg`, `xserver-xorg*intel`, `kde*`, `kwin`, and `nvidia-340` drivers.

My laptop is a Lenovo Z40 with NVIDIA GT810m (currently disabled and using Intel HD Graphics).

It looks like your kernel command line might be to blame:

[ 0.000000] Command line: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-4.15.0-20-generic root=UUID=8258f7ec-7593-4407-95b1-cf77cc95da6c ro nogpumanager quiet splash nouveau.runpm=0 vt.handoff=1

Please:
 1. Remove "nogpumanager" and "nouveau.runpm=0" from /etc/default/grub
 2. Run: sudo update-grub
 3. Reboot
 4. Tell us if the problem persists.

Sorry for the late reply. I didn't see this.

I don't see either of them there. Just "quite splash"

In that case please:

1. Attach a fresh copy of your /proc/cmdline

2. Tell us if the bug persists.

I'm curious, do you think [this](https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-340/+bug/1806817) is related?

Not sure. What I do know is that the attached Xorg logs here are now out of date. They are from a time when your kernel command line was different. Please:

1. Tell us if the problem is still happening, and if so;

2. Attach a fresh copy of:
 (a) /var/log/Xorg*.log
 (b) output from: lspci -k
 (c) journal.txt, which is created by running: journalctl -b > journal.txt

1. Other than the other bug I mentioned, everything's fine.

Thanks. Yes your Xorg log shows it is starting up fine now. So this bug can close.
