Description: Ubuntu 18.04 LTS

nvvp should run without crashing. Other tools in the toolkit are working.

Error message is:

Please try the following:

sudo apt install openjdk8-jre

then

sudo update-alternatives --config java

and select the java-8 option.

Thank you very kindly for the quick reply.  That worked perfectly!

It appears that openjdk-11 is installed by default.

BTW, if i might make another comment rather than file a new bug report:
nvprof requires root privs.  Even suid/guid root is not enough.

This bug was fixed in the package nvidia-cuda-toolkit - 9.1.85-3ubuntu1

nvidia-cuda-toolkit (9.1.85-3ubuntu1) bionic; urgency=medium

  * Visual Profiler and Nsight do not work with default-jre,
    so let nvidia-visual-profiler and nvidia-nsight packages depend on
    openjdk-8-jre and set JAVA_HOME in the nvvp and nsight wrappers
    (LP: #1766948)

Martin, I found this issue affects Nsight as well.
I've uploaded a fix which should be available soon.

Once it is, please do:

sudo update-alternatives --config java

and select option 0

As for the nvprof issue, please open a new bug and include steps to reproduce.
