gparted crashes in installed Lu 18.04

Working with an install to HD of Lubuntu 18.04 looking through the application menu "gparted" is not listed. Trying to install gparted thru terminal says, "gparted is the latest edition" . . . but no where to be seen and wouldn't launch through terminal.

Going to synaptic package manager and searching "gparted" shows that it is installed, but not appearing anywhere in menus. I used synaptic to "reinstall" gparted, after that the "gparted" menu item shows up, clicking on it opens the window requesting password, the cursor spins to indicate "activity" and then stops . . . gparted does not open or appear. And no crash report is generated.

Problem continues in my installed Lubuntu 18.04 system, after several update/upgrades to the system, launching Gparted opens the password window, the password window closes . . . a moments pause . . . and then . . . nothing . . . .

I tried to re-install gparted via the console and it says "gparted is already the newest package available."

So far this problem remains an area of low performance for mr Bionic Lubuntu . . . .

Problem continues . . . gparted is "installed" but doesn't launch, or "quits" after admin password window and password entered. No problems with it in other 18.04 versions or OpenSUSE flavors in the same computer . . . .

Going by the request on the Lubuntu User list serve, to update and test the latest packages to Lubuntu 18.04, I did so, rebooted . . . and the problem with Gparted not launching continues, now the distinction is after the update, the password window opens, enter the password and now the cursor "spins" to indicate some "activity" but the app still fails to open via GUI.

Following up on the issue I tried to launch gparted via Terminal by typing "gparted" . . . password window opens as before in the GUI, type the password, and then Terminal displays this:

"~$ gparted
Unit -.mount does not exist, proceeding anyway.
/usr/sbin/gpartedbin: error while loading shared libraries: libgtkmm-2.4.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory"

'Sounds like the libgtkmm-2.4 shared library is missing.

You might try reinstalling it with:

    sudo apt install --reinstall libgtkmm-2.4-1v5

Thanks for the tip, last night was the first time I tried to launch gparted
in the terminal and the first time I saw that error . . . I did try to
re-install gparted several times, but terminal reported "already latest
version" . . . so I'll try your suggestion and see what happens . . . and
I'll post back when that is done.

OK, running that --reinstall did seem to work; there was an "error"
reported in the console, but then it said something like, "moving forward
anyway" and Gparted window opened . . . problem is "solved."

I tried reinstalling libgtkmm-2.4-1v5 but didn't work for me. I found a post in askubuntu.com and doing this worked:

$ xhost SI:localuser:root
$ gparted

Seems like the bug which doesn't allow any root UI to run in Wayland is still not fixed.
