This issue still persists to me. Really am I the only one ?

I would add some info to help you to replicate this issue. Please could someone give me information on how to enable debugging and to analyze nm-applet behaviours ?

Regards,

Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users.

Changed in network-manager-applet (Ubuntu):
status: New → Confirmed

I think I have the same issue. The VPN switches always appear in the Off state, although the VPN is active. I think this might be part of a wider issue, because there are several problems with the network applet:

- In the menu, the wired connections has no name or icon, there is just a blank line with an arrow to expand it (see attached picture). Once expanded, the wired connection options (profiles, turn off, configure) are there.

- The connection icon does not appear in the top bar (see attached picture)

- There is no WiFi connections line, although WiFi is up and running:

gpothier@tadzim3:~$ nmcli d
DEVICE TYPE STATE CONNECTION
eth3 ethernet connected auto
wlan0 wifi connected kyg
virbr0 bridge connected virbr0
lo loopback unmanaged --
virbr0-nic tun unmanaged --

- Restarting network manager causes the applet to completely misbehave. For instance, after restarting NM, attempting to connect to a VPN through the applet actually tries to connect to some random remembered WiFi network. It is necessary to restart Gnome Shell for the applet to resync with NM.

I think this issue could depend on the fact i'm using two monitors on my laptop.

I tested when i use only the laptop monitor the applet works fine. However when the second monitor is attached the nm-applet stop working.
I don't know if this behaviour can be reproduced on any laptop.

Also, i would report what i think is a linked issue here.
When i reboot without the second monitor attached the login screen appears fine, while when the second monitor is attached the login screen appears as in the attached picture in this post.

Regards,
L.

Ha, interesting, I also use an external monitor. Next time the issue arises (because right now the applet seems to be fine) I'll check if changing monitor configuration fixes the issue.
I think you should report the login screen issue separately.

I'm on a desktop and experiencing this issue. I have a single-GPU dual-monitor display set up. However, for me the issue persists even after unplugging the second monitor, unfortunately.

Thank you for your bug report, that issue seems similar to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-shell/issues/301 which upstream fixed in 3.30 and in 3.28 git (but not in a release yet, though a git snapshot is being SRUed)

affects: network-manager-applet (Ubuntu) → gnome-shell (Ubuntu)
Changed in gnome-shell (Ubuntu):
importance: Undecided → Low
status: Confirmed → Fix Released
