minimised windows dissappear

Bug Description

whenever I minimise an open window (whether firefox, totem movie player, etc...) it cannot be found again. however, when closing Ubuntu GG,
the system finds it and force-closes it for itself. But I couldnt find it by clicking on the (monitor?) icon. It does NOT go into another desktop either... I checked that out. so is it that the "monitor icon" does not do the job of looking after minimised program windows? If so, why doesnt an icon or note appear on one of the "panels" as you call them. (I am ex-windows trying to fathom your linux-based system.) If Ubuntu or any Linux-based OS is serious about getting WINDOWS cutomers away from that system, then they need to make the programs operate similar to MS. Otherwise they may migrate back to MS if they cannot operate Ubuntu with ease. REM: Most of us have only ever known MS-Windows, and DOS-based systems... and we dont really have time to stuff around anymore with new systems, especially if they also have defects.

Why not install a fault tracker and reporter, with a follow-up repair patch, in UBUNTU, as we old WIN XP guys dont know your language. Most of the language used on "report a bug" has no meaning to me. All I know is, I minimise a window, and it's nowhere to be found again, so I have to reload it. dont ask me any tech question about this, as it will be like Chinese to me. ALL automatic systems for correction of problems should use plain English.

Which version of Ubuntu are you using? Programs like Firefox should be found in the taskbar at the bottom of the page after minimizing.
Could you attach a screenshot of your screen before and after minimizing Firefox?

Huhh, your panels look a bit messed up. The applets are all around them, the menu is missing, etc. What happens when you click on the little arrows in the corners of the screen? Maybe you should just add new panels and delete the old ones. By the way, you should be able to find your running applications by pressing alt+tab if nothing else helps.

Hi Adam, Thank you very much for your help.... Right hand bottom bar - when I removed some desktop open icons, the "lost" windows started to re-appear. Many thanks, Bob Koomans, really appreciate this!

Hi, Adam, hey - it's backagain! ... losing windows after minimising ... I can get them back again using ALT>TAB, but no icon anywhere, even cleaned up some more. My kids fret when using my PC, and really HATE UBUNTU now. So I loaded up a new HDD with MSwindowsXP3pro, and later loaded UBUNTU as backup for myself.
what I need to know now, is how to find out WHERE the windows go to, just like the settings are changing each time. I have run CLAM anti-virus - but the disk is clear of known viruses.
