Bug Description

Would be great to have the alternative to search considering non-ASCII chars like ASCII ones, a == âàáäÂÀÂÄ, so if I search for "Trmač" brings me "trmac" too.

Reported upstream at https://pagure.io/mlocate/issue/40

Debian has moved from mlocate to the independent plocate codebase for performance reasons and we are following suit in Ubuntu 22.04. Unfortunately the patch for transliteration support is non-trivial to port and I am dropping it as part of the plocate takeover of the mlocate package. I am therefore opening a bug task on plocate for this issue since the package is now affected.

An updated patch that applies against plocate would be welcome.
