using the ubuntu 16.04lts, after some update no icons, no menu in the desktop screen. please someone help to solve this issue.

1) What was updated specifically that afterwards the icons stopped displaying?

Christopher sorry I don't know about the type of update. But I'm totally
removed the version 16.04 LTS version and now I'm installed Ubuntu 17.01
version. Working fine.
