Bug Description

1. leave computer until gnome-shell blanks the screen (monitor goes to sleep)
2. clear GDM screen by swiping up.

There is a video flicker now when I interact with computer.
Usually small, but can cover many different UI elements.

This does not happen if I use the X backend instead of wayland.

So that we can understand what kind of graphical bug we are dealing with, please record a video of the problem (on a mobile phone is OK) and attach it here.

Thanks.

Sounds like it might end up being the same problem as bug 1748871. Even though the appearance of the flicker seems different.

Krister,

Other people are saying that kernel 4.15 has fixed the problem. Can you please try testing it by booting this?

I booted this image and no longer experience the issue.

I'm not sure if the default for this image is Wayland or Xorg...
the command "echo $DESKTOP_SESSION" gave "ubuntu".

The other thing is that I installed the packages linux-headers-4.15.0-10 and linux-image-4.15.0-10-generic on my 17.10 installation and still see have the flicker...
so it's not the kernel that fixes the issue.

Good point. The default session is Xorg now. And I can't seem to find a way to force Wayland using that iso.

Did you check (with 'uname -r') that 4.15 was really the kernel you were testing in 17.10?

Yes. I verified that using the kernel 4.15 does not fix the problem.
