Can you tell us what model laptop you're using?

Also what do you get when you run this command?; ls /sys/class/backlight/

I'm experiencing the same. Acer Aspire S7 392. Worked under 17.04, not under 17.10.

The only way I can change my screen brightness currently is via the command line:

sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness <<< 200
