Gmail Notify does not use firefox as default browser

By default, gmail-notify uses www-browser for its browser - which does not launch any browser on ubuntu. Should probably be changed to firefox.

On my system www-browser, from a terminal, launches w3m, a text mode browser. Not good anyway, and doesn't even start from gmail-notify.

I don't think we should hard-code firefox. There are (several :-() standard ways to call a browser, so the user can change the settings once for all apps. Either call x-www-browser (which gives priority to mozilla over firefox, bug already reported), or rather gnome-www-browser (probably the best choice at this point).

gnome-www-browser doesn't exist on my default Hardy install; how about sensible-browser?

In a GNOME-environment (Ubuntu), the browser to start should look at the following location in gconf-editor:
/desktop/gnome/applications/browser/exec (currently in my situation: firefox)

This can be done while installing or even runtime.

Either way, gmail-notify is then configuration free (at least for this particular issue).

Option for 'sensible-browser' seems to work very good. So, good option also.

Why no progress on this bug? Over a year later, I tried using gmail-notify and had exactly the same problem. Changing to "sensible-browser" requires no programming, and if not ideal would at least fix the problem for most users.
