Bug Description

I'm working on an academic poster and need to include bulleted lists from
OpenOffice, but Inkscape doesn't render them attractively. I wish Inkscape
supported bulleted lists in text objects.

The simplest work around is to use the UTF character • (decimal code:
8226). You can copy and paste it right from this report, or while typing in
text, hit Ctrl+u (like unicode) and type it's hexadecimal code: 2022 then
return.
On a more general level, I don't thing SVG covers this kind of semantics
for text, it rather belongs to (x)html. I see two possible levels of
response:
1/Find a way to get an SVG from an (x)html renderer (I guess that when
gecko will use cairo this will be doable in one step). Right now, AFAIK,
this would involve quite circumvented & proprietary steps (print in a pdf
-- also works from OOo, opens the pdf in Adobe Illustrator, save s SVG).
2/Add to inkscape the capability of managing XHTML natively (creates and
render XHTML+SVG mixed documents). Would require a large amount of work +
does not seems in the scope of the project (inkscape is an SVG editor)
3/Create an extension able to parse a subset of xhtml and render it as
svg. Basics could be easy, but advanced css features might be quite hard
(most basic stuff can be forwarded as is from html to svg, but
positionning, display type, etc is harder)
4/OOo drawing module is able to export svg, while I had some small isues,
this works:
*Copy&Paste your text from OOo writer to OOo Draw, then export to svg.
*Open the svg in inkscape: text is invisible, select it from the xmleditor
and make it black
*Kerning is somehow messed up (use of embedded fonts ?), correct it
manually
I did not test this method thoughtfully, feel free to report your
successes/faliures.

What is the problem with adding a simple Numbered AND Bulleted list feature?

Do you know what a pain in the butt it is to have to align everything?

For example, for my science poster, I have 11 references - and I must align every damn number one under another! Oh and once you get past 9, you have to realign all the numbers above if you didn't anticipate this in advance!

I mean - really - how hard can it be? I am not saying it is easy - but common - guys, please. You are the only alternative to all those expensive and fat software out there.

Please.

Sorry to pop this to new - but it seems like there is no response to this for 2 years and I would really hate for it to be left out again.

You are doing yourself a disservice by downgrading the bug status to 'New.

@drozzy - "New" means the same as "Unconfirmed"... i.e. you marked the report as being unsuitable for the developers to consider. You want to see the feature added, so I have bumped the status back up to "Confirmed".

Please remember that free software is usually developed by unpaid volunteers, and new features are dependent on the generous donations of time and expertise from those people. A polite inquiry is always likely to get better results.

I'm also affected by this. You might say that inkscape is NOT a publishing software (and I would agree) but despite this fact it is a most usable WYSWIG publishing software on my linux system. Scribus is a pain to use for a person that is not a professional, I use latex often but using latex to create a poster is a an overkill. And so on.

If anyone finds time please fix it :)
