Any Update here ?

Able to install older versions of Ubuntu on the same machine.

Your bug report includes the warning that:

 Warning: http://us.ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/artful/main/binary-ppc64el/Packages.xz was corrupt

If this were corrupt on our servers, we should see failures building all images and packages for 17.10. Since this is not the case, the most likely explanation is either a one-time corruption at download time, or corruption on some proxy in between the server and the machine you're installing on.

Is this failure reproducible for you?

The main failure here is
An error was returned while trying to install the kernel into the
target system.
Kernel package: 'linux-generic'.

But yes, 'Continue' from there sometimes yields the Packages.xz corrupt issue. That is not reproducible all the time, but 50% of time.

Thanks,
Harish

I get the same error:

An error was returned while trying to install the kernel into
the target system.
      Kernel package: 'linux-generic'.

Which seems to be this error:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1717038

Try this to confirm:
alt-f2, enter
# in-target ping googgle.com
(no output, wait about 20 seconds or so for it to return to the prompt)
alt-f4 you should see:

Sep 13 21:51:37 in-target: ping: google.com: Temporary failure in name resolution

Yes, I see the same failure in the syslog.

Note: Though the network is configured properly, observed some delay while pinging from the installer shell.

I've analyzed this behavior here and am reasonably confident that yes, this is the same bug as LP: #1717038, which would generically affect the use of apt-install in d-i in 17.10.

Netboot installation issue is not observed now. Tested on a Power 8 machine, installation seems to be fine. This issue will be closed as fix.

Thanks,
Harish
