Bug Description

The glom package depends on libepc, which has been removed from Debian and should be removed from Ubuntu (Debian bug #785438). Please update glom to not require this obsolete library, or else reassign this bug to the ubuntu-archive team to request its removal as well.

Debian removed it because nothing in Debian depends on it, because Debian doesn't package Glom. What's the reason to remove libepc from Ubuntu, which does package Glom?

Steve, the Debian bug claims the package is "unmaintained upstream" but that doesn't seem to be true right now.

Ok, if you intend to keep both libepc and glom in Ubuntu, that's also an option. In that case, please upload libepc to Ubuntu, changing its maintainer field to reflect that you are assuming responsibility, and close this bug.

Just to clarify, are you ok with the Maintainer being the generic "Ubuntu Developers" output from update-maintainer?

@Murray, you might know the libepc situation better than we do. Is it really unmaintained? Is that an issue for glom and if so do you plan to address it in some way like by picking up maintainance or moving away from using the library?

The Ubuntu Desktop team is not interested in being responsible for maintaining glom or libepc since they are in universe and aren't of particular interest to the Desktop team. But as long as these are maintained by MOTUs, I don't see that there is a particular problem here.

I have uploaded glom with the maintainer reset to Ubuntu Developers.
