The same issue also occurs in MATE. If you right click the mate panel | properties, the mate panel icon appears in docky and stays there even after you close out of the panel properties. With MATE, clicking the icon doesn't affect the MATE panel though.

If I then quit plank and re-open it, and panel icon is gone and it actually does not re-appear even if I go back to the MATE panel properties. However, once I reboot or logout/log back in the issue will return if I go into the MATE panel properties.

I get the same issue - right click a panel > preferences, then after you close it, the icon remains in Plank. Clicking it toggles displaying the actual panel on/off. Clicking close does not remove it.

the problem occurs when the panel options dialog is open, when closed the panel icon its show and donst go awai, the temporary solution its to restart the panel, restart plank or hide/show unakled icons in plank

I have the same issue with Xubuntu. The only workaround seems to restart the panel with xfce4-panel -r

Can confirm this issue still exists in Xubuntu 20.04. Editing Panel preferences creates a Plank icon which will not close without the restart command in #7, even after prefs window closed, 'Keep in Dock' unchecked, and clicking Quit.

I also have this issue with:
MX Linux 19.3 (Debian based)
Plank Version 0.11.89

Please integrate into the Plank settings window the possibility to make a list with programs that should not appear in the Plank dock (should be ignored). So the user can add it's own to ignore programs.

Got same issue:
Xubuntu 20.04.2 LTS
Plank 0.11.89

As mentioned above it would be nice to add a program blacklist.

it's 2021 and the bug is still there:

Debian 10 Buster, XFCE, plank stable version 0.11.4-4.

Please fix.

Fresh install on a new machine in 2022, Xubuntu 20.04.3 bug still occurs. The blacklist requests above would be handy but an acceptable fix could be even simpler.
