Selected menu item displays as blank under Win Vista

Bug Description

Just installed inkscape 0.45 under Vista Home Premium. The selected menu
item on both the main menu and any popups shows as a white bar with nothing
in it (white on white maybe?). I tried setting inkscape to run as Win XP
sp2 compatible with no change. NVIDIA GeForce 7350 LE graphics.

Screenshot is attached. Notice that the Print item displays the icon but
the word Print is missing.

The GIMP has the same problem so it must be in gtk, not inkscape.

As mentioned this is a GTK issue and any solution is more likely to come
from the GTK (or GNU Image Manipulation Program (GIMP)) developers, so best
to talk sweetly to them if you want to help move things along sooner.

Closed other reports as duplicates of this report, since this was filed

bumped priority slightly because of the duplicates but as I said the fix
is more likely to come from elsewhere than the Inkscape developers.
reference to a similar bug report in the GIMP bug tracker might be useful
if anyone can find one and add it here as a comment.

This has now been fixed. Check the development versions, and keep on the
lookout for the next official release.

I just downloaded and installed version 0.45.1 of Inkscape last night. I'm running this in Windows Vista on a brand new Dell inspiron 531 machine I just got about a month ago. So unless there is a newer version of Inkscape out that I don't know about this problem doesn't appear to have been fixed.

Hi StevenD,

0.45.1 is the latest stable release, but there has been a lot of work in the development branch since then. It's a little confusing, but 'fix released' actually means that the fix is in the development version. You can access a recent build by following the links from the inkscape.org page.

(Note that the 0.46 build for Windows currently has some big problems which are still being worked out, including crash on printing.)

Hi Tom,

I can live with it till it gets fixed then and I will look for a fix when the next stable build comes out. In the mean time I think I'm going to be having some fun. Thanks for the explanation and answer. I have been going through the online manual and playing around with this. I think I love it. This is fantastic. When I got my new Vista machine I lost all of the old Macromedia apps that I have been using because they don't work in Vista and it was a drag. But now I'm set again. I loved FreeHand and hated to see it go down the drain like it did but Inkscape does some cool stuff by some of the examples I have seen. Only had it crash on me once so far so we shall see.
