Bug Description

On Ubuntu MATE 17.04 Beta 2, when using Ambiant MATE or Radiant MATE and establishing a VPN connection, there is no "lock" on the network applet icon.
See attached screenshot.

I just did a fresh install of 18.04 today and I can confirm this still happens after I establish a successfully connection to an OpenVPN server.

Hello. I just installed 20.04.2-LTS and I confirm that the icon doesn't show after I stablish a successfull connection to an OpenVPN server.
