Bug Description

In order to add the mediascanner2 scope to the default image, we want to promote mediascanner2 and deps to main. The scope itself is already approved (bug 1218409).

Reviewing the package, it seems fine. It'd be nice if qtdeclarative5-ubuntu-mediascanner0.1 could be dropped (just ubuntu-sdk-libs depends on it).

It needs a team bug subscriber from http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-archive/ubuntu-archive-tools/trunk/view/head:/package-subscribers#L107

Since it doesn't do any format parsing itself, I don't think it needs a security review.

There are a lot of bugs. Any comment from the maintainers about how stable this is?

OK, talked to tedg, unity-api-team is subscribed. This has worked well enough in Touch for a while. Should be good for main.

I have a feeling that we saw problems in the U7 session when mediascanner was added during the big U8 MIR push. Speaking to seb128 and davmor2 a couple of questions/potential issues come up:

There was an issue in U7 where access to e.g. USB sticks, was "locked" while mediascanner did its thing. Dave will do some testing there and report back.

A lot of crash reports were triggered in the U7 session because mediascanner wasn't expecting to be run there. Can it be made to only start in the U8 session and/or deal with being in a U7/$shell session better?

BTW, I just noticed this.

If you want this to be bus activated via systemd, you should put a SystemdService=<your unit file> in the .service file. That is I think currently if you do

  $ systemctl --user status mediascanner-2.0.service

after it's been bus activated, it won't have been started by systemd.

OK, unapproving until mediascanner can be targetted at only unity8. I'm working on a patch.

Alright, mediascanner2 now only runs in unity8. I'll re-approve the MIR.
