unfortunately, apport didn't include much info about why this error occurs; could you try running 'sudo apt-get install -f', or any of the solutions mentioned at http://askubuntu.com/questions/148715/how-to-fix-package-is-in-a-very-bad-inconsistent-state-error

This command form askubuntu.com fixed it
