What is the OVS version been used? Because most of the time this Error is seen on non-compatible versions.
Let me know what exactly you are trying to compile so that i can quickly check on my repository or build a new checkout code with the Ubuntu 14.04 version for your specific scenario.

The Ubuntu 14.04 kernel contains a recent enough version of the openvswitch datapath module to not need to use the dkms package any longer - and later HWE kernels also work fine.

So I'd recommend uninstalling -dkms for now:
