Bug Description

The installer in 7.10 is extremely slow.
Every button click in the install wizard takes several seconds to respond. On a modern system.

Steps:
 - boot the 7.10 desktop i386 CD
 - start the install wizard by clicking the "Install" icon on desktop
 - click "Next" and observe how long it takes each time until the next wizard page appears
(especially the partitioner is ultra-slow)

I tested on an Athlon XP2200+ system and Pentium D 3 GHz.

This is necessary as the installer needs to verify the options that you've selected on each page. In the case of the partitioner, it needs to run through the tests with every change as your options change depending on the selections you make there.
There may be some speed ups in this for 8.04, but only as the possible byproduct of the usability and reliability work as this is a long term support release and major speed improvements will require changes to the foundation that are too intrusive for this release.

Thanks,
Evan

Check necessary ? OK, but slowdown ?
On a Core2 Duo 2GHz CPU it takes 1-2 seconds on simple screens (language/location choice)
and 28(!!!) seconds before the partition screen appears. Then if I select manual partitioning, another 9 seconds to the next screen.
The first two are CPU bound and the second partly CPU, partly disk bound.

On a noncurent PC the times are even longer.
