There must be something else going on 'cause I think the nvme driver is in linux-image:

lib/modules/4.4.0-46-generic/kernel/drivers/nvme/host/nvme.ko

It is also explicitly mentioned in the inclusion file:

debian.master/control.d/generic.inclusion-list:drivers/nvme/host/nvme.ko

This bug is awaiting verification that the kernel in -proposed solves the problem. Please test the kernel and update this bug with the results. If the problem is solved, change the tag 'verification-needed-trusty' to 'verification-done-trusty'. If the problem still exists, change the tag 'verification-needed-trusty' to 'verification-failed-trusty'.

If verification is not done by 5 working days from today, this fix will be dropped from the source code, and this bug will be closed.

See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Thank you!

I upgraded to kernel 3.13.0-106-generic and verified the nvme module is included in the linux-image package.
