Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

See bug 163310:
1. New user installs bcm43xx
2. Program asks for file; Open dialog opens
3. User must select firmware file in /media or /home
4. User has no direction - confused by filesystem's structure

See bug 120587:
1. Semi-veteran wants to edit file some where in filesystem
2. Runs gksudo gedit
3. Clicks on the open icon
4. User sees no filesystem shortcut and is upset

it would help to list in detail here what shortcuts should be added for the root account. From the bugs you mentioned I see two things

* shortcut to "Filesystem" AKA / in the tree
* shortcuts to mounted volumes/removable drives

Correct? Exhaustive?

Neither of these statements are related to Nautilus. In both described situations, the Gtk+ FileChooser(Dialog) is what takes care of these actions. However, I'm not sure that the fix is at all an easy one; rather, applications should get PolicyKit support to escalate their privileges as needed instead of being ran as root.
