After using 'journalctl -u libvirt-bin' one of the last lines stated a could not get "/var/run/libvirtd.pid"

After killing the pid from the the file and a 'apt-get install -f' the installation went ok.

Solution worked on two hosts so far.

@Markus, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better!

It seems you have a solution to your original issue. Since there isn't enough information in your report to differentiate between a local configuration problem and a bug in Ubuntu, I'm marking this bug as Incomplete. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem, explain why you believe this is a bug in Ubuntu rather than a problem specific to your system, and then change the bug status back to New.

This is not a local problem. It occured on three different systems at different customers all upgraded to xenial. The workaraound went to our normal procedure and should be fixed by the libvirt team.

If a specific information is needed, dont hestitate to ask...

On Xenial after apt-get upgrade the package 1.3.1-1ubuntu10.3 still has the same problem.

Workaraound is the same:
# kill `cat /var/run/libvirtd.pid`
# apt-get -f install

my solution was different :sudo apparmor_parser --purse-cache,
 sudo apparmor_parser -R /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd,
sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.libvirtd,
sudo systemctl restart libvirt-bin

this worked fine everything is working good now

Hi Harry and Markus,
I'm debugging this right now - it seems to show up every now and then, but so far was not reproducible for debugging.

Thank you for reporting that as an extra bug, keeping at least the initial logs separate is always great.

But the task now is about finding the missing bits in the config to create a valid reproducing case.
To have a better chance at this I'll mark this as a duplicate and hope that at the target bug all people together can work together to get that reproducing case.

Thanx for your effort anyway Cristian, together we make Ubuntu a good system.
