Bug Description

Binary package hint: mount

Since I got 7.10 I have random unmount of protected dvd.
Happens with multiple dvds.
Then the system automatically mount them again but disrupt current application (ogle tipically).
No bug reported by system.
Tell me what file I could post.

Thanks for your bug report!
Please, wait until the dvd is umounted and type
dmesg | tail
in a terminal.

The drive is a Samsung writemaster (TSSTcorpCD/DVDW TS-H552U). Worked perfectly till 7.10.

I tried yesterday a fresh install of a 7.10
The problem was that after CD boot during the installation process the drive was opening causing a lot of problems to the installer like hanghing nowhere with no install window open and no error message.
On the same machine I added another dvd drive and worked smoothly.

i have the same problem with 8:4, hardy heron. when watching dvd's (protected and otherwise), about 30-40 minutes into viewing, the dvd it randomly unmounts both the dvd, and the dvd drive. 'sudo mount -a' doesnt restore the drive, but powering down for 10 minutes and rebooting does.

will post 'dmesg | tail' when it next happens.

hmmm. since the last batch of updates, i have run a dvd (one which previously unmounted), and it has played through. maybe the problem is fixed...

oh yeah - i should mention, just before the drive unmounted, the cpu usage shot up to night on 100%, though 'top' showed that no specific program was using anything!

it happened again! i rebooted, and the drive came back. then listening to the mp3's through amarok caused the following dmesg | tail:

and it happened again today.

dmesg just tells me theres busy inodes on changed media, but i noticed that a partition i had mounted was also unmounted when this happened.

so perhaps hardy is unmounting things from my /media folder? i can ermount the drives, but not the dvd drive without rebooting (and waiting a short while)

Quite a lot of time passed.
Thanks, Gherardo
