Bug Description

The provider which libgweather was using was shut down in August.

We need to update libgweather in Xenial to new upstream micro release, 3.18.2, which switched to a new METAR data provider.

Impact: this affects all libgweather-using applications, makes them unable to retrieve weather data.

Test Case: make sure Weather applet in gnome-applets is able to display weather information.

This is actually a duplicate of bug 1616533 (which I was not able to find because it was Fix Released in Yakkety). Let's perform the verification here and mark it as duplicate once the upload is in -updates.

Don't worry about marking this a duplicate. We repurposed the other bug to just track the libmateweather SRU instead.

Do you want to upload the fix for Trusty too?

gnome-applets in Precise is technically no longer supported which I think was the only thing using this library for actual weather data there so I'm not personally going to do a precise upload but someone else could if they wanted to.

Dmitry, does uploaded mean that the package is already available for testing or do I need to wait until someone has confirmed the upload. If so, where can I track the upload status?

Hello Dmitry, or anyone else affected,

Accepted libgweather into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libgweather/3.10.2-0ubuntu3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug, mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help us make a better decision.

I can confirm for 16.04 Xenial that the update works. After installation and a restart of gnome-panel I do now see weather information where there was previously only an empty space for the weather icon.

I do not have access to a 14.04 system at the moment so cannot confirm for 14.04.

Thanks for resolving this issue :)

Could someone please take a look at bug 1610210 and bug 1621179 which concerns two other packages which use the same (old) url?
